Ask God: What’s in it for me?
Ask God: What’s in it for me?
I know what you’re thinking, the title seems pretty selfish, allow me to explain.
Let’s consider the idea that most people don’t get what they want because they don’t ask God, and actually believe that they will get whatever they ask. You see how there are 2 parts to that? Asking, then Believing in God that He will provide for you.
You long for something you don’t have, so you commit murder. You are jealous for something you can’t get, so you struggle and fight. You don’t have because you don’t ask. James 4:2
I’m in a season right now where all my decisions seem life altering, like the storm before the calm, the final exams of your final year in college. And with all of that, I’ve found myself trying to muster up what I truly want for my life. If i could sketch it, what would it look like?
Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:24
So here goes something – I’m being pushed, at a crossroad of paths being asked to use my spiritual discernment to determine if I go left, or right. The truth is, I’ve been here before, we all have. We are the result of the choices we’ve made so far. And, I’m all for better choices. So I ask God, What’s in it for me? Which way do I go, (even though You’ve considered every path) that my joy may be fulfilled?
May He give you the desires of your heart and make all your plans succeed. Psalm 20:4
The first step – figure out what your (good) desires are, because let’s face it there are bad ones. Second, ask God for what your heart desires, pray about it constantly, because if it doesn’t go away, it matters. And third, as you pray, as you fine-tune your thoughts, believe. Believe in what you desire, believe that you are worthy, believe that God can do all things, and believe that in (good) time, the right time – He will make your dreams come true far greater than what you could have ever imagined.
